Redevelopment underway on Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre

The Southern Gold Coast’s Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre redevelopment is underway. Concrete pours have begun, with construction next focussing on the podium suspended deck and pool hall substructure before work reaches the main ground level and the steel building frames.

The redevelopment of the Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre will renew the existing facilities with larger warm water program and learn to swim pools, fitness centre and add a 25-metre heated outdoor pool. It will include a whole new and much needed community centre with multipurpose hall, meeting rooms, a dance studio, creche and new café.

Mayor Tom Tate enthused “It’s pleasing to see the construction of this fantastic facility well and truly underway in one of our city’s fastest growing regions.

“The new-look centre is going to enhance the community and reflect the culture, climate, and character of the southern Gold Coast.”

QLD Assistant Minister for Local Government Nikki Boyd said Queensland was getting 2032 Ready and added “our upgrades, partnered with City of Gold Coast, will deliver a world class swimming facility in a city that has a passion for swimming and the water.

“Facilities like this will instil a lifelong love of swimming and hopefully some of the young people training and practicing at these facilities will represent Queensland proudly in 2032 just up the road.”

The new 25 metre pool is funded by the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program in association with the City of Gold Coast.

Construction stats:

  • More than 300 concrete trucks will deliver 2094 cubic metres of concrete to form the basement undercover carparking level

  • The concrete is being poured over seven days across nine weeks

  • A total of 135 tonnes of steel reinforcement has been laid

  • The project is providing employment for 363 Gold Coast based workers

  • 49 of the suppliers are from South East Queensland.
