Record crowd for 2014 NRL Grand Final
A ground record crowd of 83,833 watched the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final between the South Syney Rabbitohs and the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs at the ANZ Stadium last night (Sunday 5th October).
The crowd is the biggest attendance for any sporting event at ANZ Stadium since it was reconfigured after the Sydney Olympics, beating the previous ANZ Stadium record crowd of 83,813 set for State of Origin 3 in 2013.
Commenting on the record crowd, NRL Head of Commercial Paul Kind stated “about 1,000 additional seats were installed for (the) game – and those seats were snapped up quickly
“And we believe that we could have had a crowd in excess of 100,000 had the original Olympic configuration still been in place, such was the demand for tickets to this year’s Grand Final.
“So a big thank you to all supporters for an amazing finish to a very successful season.”
In the aftermath of the Rabbitohs win, over 3,000 fans jumped online to the Rabbitohs online store the moment as the final siren went.
Servicing this interest, with 67% of visitors on a mobile device, IMG Sports Technology Group’s (IMG STG) ecommerce team worked closely with the Rabbitohs to ensure access to all grand final merchandise and memorabilia, with the Rabbitohs online store containing a range of premiership related merchandise.
Much sought after match worn jerseys’ will also be auctioned through IMG STG’s online auction platform over the coming weeks.
