Queensland's tourism industry grows to $23 billion
Tourism in Queensland is booming with new data showing the industry has contributed $23 billion to our economy during the last year.
Queensland Minister for Tourism Jann Stuckey said the latest State Tourism Satellite Account figures proved the Queensland’s DestinationQ strategy to revitalise tourism was paying off.
Minister Stuckey explained "(the) data shows that (in) two years … the tourism industry has seen economic growth of more than $3.5 billion.”
The Minister added that the tourism industry is responsible for sustaining 241,000 Queensland jobs, stating "the data shows that tourism is creating jobs for Queensland with a 13% increase in tourism employment over the last two years - contributing to the (Government’s) commitment to create 420,000 jobs over the next six years and reduce the state's unemployment rate to 4%.
"Destination Success, our 20-year plan for tourism outlines our aspirations and what will set Queensland apart as a destination of choice on the national and international stage, both now and in to the future.
"We are working closely with the sector to restore confidence and boost visitation across our tourism industry.”
