Queensland Performing Arts Centre flags employment opportunities
With the new theatre at Brisbane’s Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on track to be completed by the middle of next year, the leading cultural institution has been highlighting career opportunities that it offers.
Encouraging those who are “passionate about the performing arts … eager to make your mark in an industry that thrives on creativity, expression, and captivating audiences” QPAC has a dedicated page on its website promoting its employment opportunities.
It advise “at QPAC, we are proud to be a leading cultural institution, dedicated to showcasing the best of local and international talent across various artistic disciplines.
“Whether you dream of working behind the scenes or Front of House or contributing to the management and administration of our iconic arts institution, you'll have the chance to work alongside renowned artists, production professionals, and industry experts who share your passion for the performing arts.”
It also presents a video giving a glimpse of what working at QPAC is like.
QPAC’s new 1,500-seat theatre
Expected to increase QPAC's capacity by 300,000 visitors per year, its new 1,500-seat theatre will, when complete, make QPAC the largest performing arts centre in Australia.
The theatre was supposed to be built in 2022 but said flooding combined with worker and material shortages delayed the project.
The 2022 flooding event saw 30 million litres of sludgy floodwater wreck the site.
Originally expected to cost $150 million, its price tag increased by $25 million in 2020. However, as a result of a fixed contract with its builders, its final cost is not expected to exceed $175 million.
While building work is on target for completion by mid 2024, fit out of the new venue is then expected to take several months to complete.
Speaking recently, QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said the new theatre would be the "best bespoke theatre in Australia".
With visitor numbers to QPAC now higher than pre-COVID levels, with 1.3 million visitors in the last financial year, Kotzas said the institution was rapidly running out of space to fit the influx of patrons.
Kotzas advised “our attendances are so high at the moment that we can project in the future we're going to need another venue.”
