QEII Fitness reopens at Parklands
Christchurch City Council is once again offering health and fitness opportunities to communities in eastern Christchurch with the move of the QEII fitness centre to Parklands Community Centre now complete.
QEII Fitness at Parklands opened on Monday 15th August 2011 in the Parklands Community Centre.
Explaining the move, the Council's Recreation and Sports Manager, John Filsell stated "QEII Fitness at Parklands offers the same full range of services and equipment that the QEII fitness centre did, (even) the equipment is the same!
"We managed to retrieve the world class state of the art Technogym machines, formally at QEII and bring it all to Parklands.
"The same committed and professional staff from QEII will be based at Parklands and they worked really hard to ensure the equipment got to Parklands safely, piece by piece.
"I am really impressed with the new site. It feels tailor-made for the new fitness centre. It's got a big open space with high ceilings and lots of light so it's a nice comfortable space to work out in.
"We've invited all QEII fitness centre users to reactivate their frozen memberships to QEII Fitness at Parklands and we're sure to receive plenty of new memberships from the local community once they see how well equipped the new site is."
QEII Fitness at Parklands will offer group exercise classes, a full range of cardio equipment, machines and weights and personalised fitness programmes. The Parklands Community Centre also offers a sports lounge, meeting rooms and offices which are available for community groups to book.
The move is temporary until a new permanent home can be found in the city's eastern suburbs. The fitness centre was part of the QEII complex, which has been closed since the February earthquake because of structural damage and liquefaction.
