Protesters return to campaign against Sea World's dolphins
A small group of protesters has returned to Main Beach on the Gold Coast today to renew protests over Sea World's keeping of dolphins.
Just days after the Queensland border reopening, the group renewed action last undertaken in 2019, gathering opposite Sea World.
Ignoring Sea World's rehabilitation and care programs for marine animals, about a dozen protestors gathered Sea World Drive calling for the marine them park to end dolphin breeding and captivity.
The Animal Justice Party is urging the Queensland government to hold roundtable talks between Sea World, legislators, and concerned community groups.
As reported by the Gold Coast Bulletin, Angela Banovic of a group called Dolphin Freedom Fighters said the Australian public were against wild animals being bred and used for entertainment, commenting "bottlenose dolphins are not threatened in nature therefore breeding dolphins is unethical, exploitative and completely unnecessary."
Village Roadshow Theme Parks Chief Operating Officer Bikash Randhawa defended Sea World and its history of animal conservation through education and rescuing sick or injured wildlife and was dismissive of the protestors, stating “I think it’s disgraceful behaviour, ... all they are trying to do is get a bit of airtime with the media."
