Project to transform Logan’s historic Kingston Butter Factory now underway

The Kingston Butter Factory has begun its transformation into Logan’s performing arts and cultural precinct, set to host major performances, festivals, markets and regular community events.

The $16.1 million transformation of the venue by Logan City Council will see the former industrial site and its grounds adapted into a vibrant cultural heritage and performing arts hub in the heart of Logan.

The project is also seeing the interior of the historic Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) building re-imagined.

Once completed the KBF Precinct will feature the city's largest outdoor events space, with a purpose-built stage and room for audiences of up to 5000, along with a blackbox-style theatre, rehearsal space and a living museum to celebrate the Logan’s cultural diversity.

Logan City Council Mayor Darren Power said the venue, when finished, would be a significant addition to South-East Queensland’s tourism infrastructure, noting “having such a large outdoor space that can attract major events and festivals will bring massive economic benefits to Logan.

“It will be a space the whole community can enjoy, where they can access world-class arts, culture, festivals and events.”

Councillor Laurie Koranski, Chair of Logan City’s Lifestyle Committee said community feedback had endorsed Council’s decision to redevelop the building into a cultural heritage and performing arts hub, adding “results of a community survey in November last year overwhelmingly supported Council’s proposal for KBF.

“The KBF Cultural Precinct will be a place where people will come together in ways that connect, entertain and inspire.”
