Princess Anne to open 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show

Marking the first visit to Australia by a member of the UK Royal Family in a number of years, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW has advised that Princess Anne will be opening the 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show, representing her mother Queen Elizabeth as the guest of honour.

Show organisers advised in a statement “Her Royal Highness is specifically coming to Australia in her role as Patron of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth to open the 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show where we celebrate our Bicentenary.

“HRH also opened the 1988 Sydney Royal Show where we celebrated the nation’s bicentenary.”

Princess Anne, who is President of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC), may also be visiting parts of regional and rural NSW during her trip.

When attending Brisbane’s Ekka in 2014 in her role as RASC she praised Australia’s agricultural show societies as “institutions” for attracting almost a quarter of the national population to attend a show each year, stating "the tradition of the agricultural shows form a particularly rich part of Australia’s cultural and social heritage."

2014 also saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Royal Easter Show during their three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Organisers of the 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show, which runs from 8th to 19th April, have advised that it will this year feature heritage themed entertainment, historical displays, as well as all the traditional Show favourites to commemorate the rich history of the RAS and celebrate the very best of the Show over the years.

Homes to be built at the Hobart Showgrounds
The Tasmanian Government has today advised that the redevelopment of the Hobart Showgrounds will soon commence with the construction of 450 new affordable homes being built as part of a 10-year housing package.

The Showground redevelopment will mean the establishment of a new community in a prime location, close to amenities, transport, schools, recreation facilities and attractions.
