Premium Lifestyle Clubs tests members’ mettle at Functional Games
Brisbane played host to some of the country’s fittest and most determined amateur athletes recently, with Premium Lifestyle Clubs (PLC) holding their second annual Functional Games at PLC Northgate on 14th and 15th December.
The Games, first held in 2018, challenge PLC members and external gladiators to gruelling high-intensity workouts over a two-day period. The event incorporates male & female heats and finals, and each stage is as hardcore as it gets - PLC is proud to offer one of the highest intensity workouts in the country.
Commenting on the event, PLC founder and Chief Executive, Scott Lewis stated “this weekend-long event is the culmination of a 12-month goal for our members.
“It’s all about honing your mindset as you strive to be the greatest competitor; pushing yourself beyond your limits and giving it your all to be the very best version of yourself.”
The event is limited to the top 200 members in the country, and to earn their spot at the Games each competitor first has to qualify.
Every PLC club across the country held their qualifying events - which included fitness tests and body scans - in October while a handful of wildcard entries were also up for grabs among those who entered into the nationwide PLC 6 Week Challenge.
Lewis noted “after listening to feedback from last year, we took things to the next level this time, and had three stages of competition.
“Our gladiators competed in gruelling workouts as they progressed through the three stages. The heats and semis were time-capped and the finals truly lived up to the name of ‘battle of the fittest’. Instead of a time cap, finalists fought to make it to the finish line in the fastest time.
“While our event is physically demanding, ultimately it’s our competitors’ mindset that gets them through.”
The ultimate winners of the male and female finals were James Kelly and Serena Coxwell who each demonstrated incredible tenacity and grit as they showcased their strength and endurance, driving themselves to overcome the fierce competition and be named as champions.
More than 500 spectators also attended the event, with members, friends and family travelling from all over Australia to support their club and their community.
Newly appointed General Manager of PLC Franchising Damien Bain says that the community spirit and calibre of the competitors were the perfect example of what makes PLC one of the top training groups in the country.
Bain added “in my 20 years of working in this industry, I have never seen such a competitive, dedicated and community-focused group.
“Our members demonstrated a level of fitness and a drive to succeed that is hard to match. It’s this mindset of achievement that makes PLC so effective and so rewarding. We’re a community that inspires one other to be better – every single day.”
As PLC prepares to launch into 2020, the team are looking forward to hosting an even bigger and better event next year, with even more community involvement and more events in which competitors can challenge themselves and push their limits.
Sponsorships will be open from February 2020, with the event scheduled for the last quarter of 2020.
