Powerhouse Museum announces appoint of Mark Wilsdon to new Chief Operating Officer role
Sydney's Powerhouse Museum has announced the appointment of Mark Wilsdon to new the role of Chief Operating Officer - commencing in November - a role considered to be central to the transformation of the museum across its sites including the new flagship Powerhouse Parramatta, the renewal of Powerhouse Ultimo and the expansion of Powerhouse Castle Hill.
Wilsdon brings over 30 years of experience in the arts, cultural, tourism and hospitality sectors, including a successful tenure as the founding Co-Chief Executive of the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) where he oversaw the establishment and extraordinary growth of the world-renowned institution.
As a highly respected industry leader Wilsdon brings strong financial and commercial acumen as well as significant expertise in the delivery of visitor experience strategies.
Wilsdon advised "I am honoured to take up this role. Being a driving force in the realisation of David Walsh's vision for Mona in Tasmania has helped me understand, and deeply respect, the powerful impact that cultural activity can have on communities. I am very excited by the opportunity to play my part in the transformation of the Powerhouse — supporting social and economic growth for Greater Sydney too."
“I believe the success of cultural institutions is inextricably linked to community ownership and the Powerhouse renewal across its sites presents an incredible opportunity to deliver world leading cultural experiences for the people of NSW, as well as visitors from across Australia and around the world.”
Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah added “I am thrilled to welcome a cultural leader of Mark’s calibre to the Powerhouse during this transformative period in the museum’s history.
“We will set a new benchmark in visitor experience across our sites and Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit and experience aligning commercial operations with dynamic cultural programming will be instrumental in achieving that vision.”
