Poseidon launches detection system for wave pools
Poseidon Technologies, the world's leading computer aided anti-drowning detection system, has adapted its technology so that it can now be used in wave pool environments.
Poseidon, which for over 10 years has been the world leader in anti-drowning detection systems, utilises video images to scan the texture, light and shadows of pools, along with the trajectory of swimmers, to detect any potential drowning.
Until recently the unique environment of an operational wave pool provided particular challenges for the detection of any potential drowning.
However, as Poseidon Australia Business Manager Troy Green explains "we have recently overcome the issues involved in detections in the wave pool environment and the rapid changes in texture and water volumes that occur while a wave pool is in operation by redesigning the software involved in any wave pool installation.
"We can confidently recommend Poseidon to be of assistance to professional lifeguards in what is already a challenging environment particularly wave pools."
Poseidon Technologies first developed their unique computer aided anti-drowning detection system in 1999 and have over 220 installations worldwide including Australia. The new wave pool system is now operational at two facilities in Europe.
Green explains "we do have two recent installations in operational wave pools currently in Europe but due to the unique characteristics of each installation, every Poseidon system is constantly monitored for six months after installation and the software is adjusted to allow for the minor differences in light etc caused by predominantly the changing seasons.
"It is the Poseidon ethos to make sure we have a system we are proud to carry the name and our wave pool technology is no different. After all its swimmers' lives we are talking about."
Poseidon recently recorded its 22nd drowning assistance save in France and to date no fatal drowning has ever occurred in a Poseidon equipped pool.
