Port Stephens to welcome Australian Regional Tourism Convention

Destination Port Stephens is inviting tourism stakeholders from around Australia to attend the nation’s premier regional tourism event, the Australian Regional Tourism Convention, in Port Stephens from 20th to 23rd October 2014.

The four-day event will be staged at Port Stephens' Ramada Shoal Bay Resort and is expected tp draw more than 160 tourism industry representatives from around Australia, boosting the region’s economy by an estimated $240,000.

A welcoming event, business breakfast and farewell events will also be held at Vues Nelson Bay, Oaks Pacific Blue and Ocean View Restaurant in Fingal Bay with delegates spending one day in field trips to Newcastle, Singleton or the Central Coast to learn about tourism programs in those areas.

Destination Port Stephens Manager Janelle Gardner said the region was looking forward to hosting the conference, adding that the convention would help delegates gain a competitive advantage in the growing visitor economy.

Gardner stated “the beauty of Port Stephens will provide a spectacular backdrop to the conference and we look forward to sharing our backyard with delegates from across the country.”

Australian Regional Tourism Network Chairman Steve Rosa said the October convention would address important issues facing the regional tourism industry, with delegates able to better understand their competition and discover successful strategies and programs that have worked in other regions.

Rosa added “delegates at the conference will gain research, information and expert advice on how to grow their businesses and they can also network with key players in the industry.

"We invite regional tourism operators from across Australia to join us at this important event.”
