Physical Activity Australia to combine with Bluearth Foundation
Exercise accreditation and physical activity promotion organisation Physical Activity Australia is to combine with the Bluearth Foundation – the national not-for-profit organisation that focusses on increasing levels of physical activity.
The merger, which will take effect as of Tuesday 24th June, will see current Physical Activity Australia Chief Executive Fiona Bailey leave the organisation at the end of this month, with Bluearth Foundation Chief Executive Wendy Gillet assuming responsibility for both organisations.
In a statement advising of the changes, Bailey explained “the (Physical Activity Australia) Board believes that by joining with the Bluearth Foundation our registrants, partners and supporters will now have access to more resources and benefits, a greater national network with a contact person located in all states and territories - not yet Tassie - and that the fitness industry and fitness professionals will have an even stronger voice representing their concerns.”
Based in Victoria, Physical Activity Australia (formerly known as Kinect and prior to that, VicFit) has focussed on the promotion of physical activity, active living and the reduction of sedentary lifestyles by engaging with the fitness industry, building best practice instructor standards and program accreditation, and rigorously applying research and evidence to develop engaging physical activity initiatives.
Since 1987, the organisation has been recognised by the Victorian Government in providing a registration system for exercise professionals.
With similar aims to Physical Activity Australia, the Bluearth Foundation was established in 2000 to help improve the health and wellbeing of Australians through the delivery of best practise physical activity back into the community.
The new combined organisation will be based at the Bluearth Foundation’s offices in Port Melbourne.
