Petone to host 2014 Indoor Cricket World Cup
Hutt City Council has announced that the Hutt Indoor Sports Centre at Hutt Park is to host 350 players from eight countries for the next Indoor Cricket World Cup.
The tournament, which is held every three years, will run from Saturday 18th to Saturday 25th October 2014.
Indoor Cricket World Cup teams will compete across four categories; men's, women's, boys under 20s and girls under 20s. Hutt City is expecting to host an opening ceremony for the event, which will showcase the bicultural history of the region.
This purpose built stadium was completed in 2012 and features six courts and facilities that will rival any indoor sports stadium around the world and will combine to provide an outstanding experience for all.
Petone won the right to host the cup over Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Welcoming the hosting, Hutt City Mayor Ray Wallace stated "it's great to see Hutt City chosen for our world-class facilities.
"With international teams expected to be here for two weeks this is a great chance for us to showcase the vibrancy of our region and prepare the way for an expected increase in visitors as other planned venues are developed."
