Perth’s new Wellington Square intergenerational playground opens
Perth’s new Wellington Square intergenerational playground, Koolunga Koolangka Waabiny, has officially opened featuring nature play, a skate park, parkour activities, a flying fox, embankment slides, a pump track, waterplay, climbing towers, as well as basketball courts.
The project, part of the Wellington Square in the Perth CBD redevelopment project, is an inclusive, culturally appropriate and accessible environment for people of all ages.
The State Government supported the project through $4.37 million in Lotterywest funding.
The theme for the community playground is ‘Landscape of Play’ and the design is influenced by Aboriginal themes and Western Australian landforms.
Perth MLA John Carey notes “this is exactly what our city needs. If we want to attract more people to live in the city, then we need to make it more people and family friendly, with more recreational amenities like this.”
