Performers injured by falling LED Screen at Hong Kong concert

Two dancers and a patron have been injured during a concert in Hong Kong as a result of large video screen falling from its mountings above the stage.

The accident occurred during a concert last night at the Hong Kong Coliseum by Cantopop boy band Mirror when a giant screen fell from its mounting and crushed one dancer on the head and body, before toppling over onto another performer and a fan.

Videos circulating on social media show Mirror members Anson Lo and Edan Lui performing with a dozen dancers when one of several suspended LED screens above the stage comes crashing down.

With the audience screaming in horror, the rest of the performers on stage rushed to help those hit by the screen.

The concert was halted after the incident and fans were asked to leave the venue.

Hong Kong Police said the two male dancers were conscious and taken to Hong Kong’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital following the incident.

Local media reported that the hospital said one of the dancers was in a "serious condition", while the other was stable.

According to US entertainment publication Variety, the Hong Kong Government has suspended further concerts at the venue until it proves the safety of its stage design and mechanical structures.

Organisers Music Nation and MakerVille, which are subsidiaries of Hong Kong telecom company PCCW, said that the remaining shows of Mirror’s concert series have been cancelled.

Hong Kong authorities have also ordered an investigation into the incident on stage, with the Special Administrative Region’s Chief Executive, John Lee stating “I have contacted the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, and instructed the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, together with relevant departments, to comprehensively investigate the incident and review the safety requirements of similar performance activities in order to protect the safety of performers, working staff and members of the public.”

A petition calling for safety improvements at the venue has 13,000 signatures
