Penrith interactive artworks celebrate collaboration, creativity and culture
Penrith City Council has advised that its annual place making grants program, Magnetic Places, has been reimagined in 2020 with a walking trail of interactive artworks set to transform the St Marys City Centre over three nights from 22nd to 24th October in celebration of collaboration, creativity and culture during a challenging time.
Four projects created by local residents for this year’s Magnetic Places: Arts & Connection After Isolation program will bring buildings and quiet corners to life after dark with eye-catching and thought-provoking activations that move, light up and make sounds.
A nine metre spaceship that acts as a canvas for a spectacular artwork, an eight metre archway carrying your whispered secrets, an interactive coloured light show and a sound composition projected from speakers are all featured in this year’s program.
Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown advised that the artworks have been made by residents experiencing isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic and are a wonderful celebration of collaboration, creativity and culture during a difficult time.
Mayor McKeown added “there’s no doubt this year has been different to any other so it’s fitting that our Magnetic Places program has adapted to highlight the importance of community, and bring some colour into our lives when we all really need it.”
The local community is invited to view and interact with the artworks with a designated walking trail created so everyone can experience and enjoy the artworks safely.
A number of other safety measures are in place to ensure the health and safety of the community including separate entry and exits points, sign in and temperature checks on arrival, limited numbers in each session and hand sanitiser stations.
