Parks Victoria encourages planning for Easter visits

With thousands of visitors expected to be enjoying Victoria’s parks this Easter, Parks Victoria is encouraging people to plan ahead and book their campsites before they leave.

Parks Victoria Chief Executive Dr Bill Jackson said Autumn is a wonderful time to get out embrace the Healthy Parks Healthy People approach, and enjoy all that nature has to offer and spend time in parks, and a new app is a great tool to help them.

Dr Jackson explained “this year, Easter falls in (the) school holidays, so we’re encouraging people who are planning a stay in one of Victoria’s magnificent parks to book before they go, as we know this will be a very popular time for people to enjoy a break."

Dr Jackson said there are some parks across the state where campsites are expected to be at, or close to, full capacity during Easter, stating "people can now book online for all camping sites where fees apply … booking online before you travel guarantees a site will be available for you when you arrive."

Dr Jackson said bookings are not required in parks where there is no fee to camp, adding “there’s so much to see and do in Victoria’s national parks and many great places to visit in the nearby towns.

"Whether you fancy a relaxing picnic and a gentle stroll or a more energetic hike, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Victoria’s parks and waterways.

Parks Victoria’s new Parks Discovery app is packed with interesting facts and stories, along with a directory of Victoria’s most popular parks, which will help people to get out and get exploring by listing the basic information about where to go and what to do. The app also allows users to create a list of visited parks and to add their own notes.

The Parks Discovery app is available for free download from the iTunes app store or Google Play.
