Parks and Leisure Australia launches 50-point advocacy plan for parks and recreation

Parks and recreation industry association Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) has launched a '50 Point Plan' setting out a pathway for the organisation to ensure it remains relevant to members, moves with the times and establishes a solid foundation on which to build a strong voice for the sector.

Subtitled 'A Call to Action', the Plan highlights an aim to transform "PLA into a viable, vibrant and sustainable organisation serving the parks and leisure sector in Australia".

It adds "the Fifty Point Plan has been developed in response to (member) need and ... sets out a pathway for the organisation to encure it remains relevant to members, moves with times and establishes a solid foundation on which to build a strong voice for the sector.

"PLA will provide a range of services to members and the sector and will become the key agency the government turns to on all things parks and leisure in Australia."

The PLA plan sets out a range of strategic priorities in its own governance and in respect of research and advocacy, professional development, membership services, marketing and communications, products and services and partnerships and alliances.

PLA is the peak body representing community and recreation planning; parks, gardens and open space; sport development; horticulture and arboriculture; grounds maintenance and cemeteries; facility management; play and play spaces; tourism and events; health and physical activity; and environment and biodiversity.
