Outdoor gym equipment installed on Doha Corniche
The Qatari Government is aiming to provide improved access to fitness equipment in public places, with exercise bikes and an array of outdoor strength equipment installed on the Doha Corniche.
The equipment aims to enhance the fitness experience for residents and vistors who regularly use the Corniche for physical activity.
Equipment has been installed at various locations on the curvilinear Corniche; near the Sheraton Park, near the Museum of Islamic Art, and near the Oryx statue .
The free-to-use equipment includes static apparatus like overhead bars suitable for chin ups along with rowing and cycling resistance machines. Most machines have instructions in Arabic and English.
Doha Corniche is a measured, non-obstructive pathway by the sea that stretches across over six kilomettres.
The outdoor gyms are part of a strategy to combat rapidly increasing cases of obesity attributed to sedentary urban life, with Qatar experiencing high rates of diabetes and hypertension.
