Oscar Piastri honoured with Grandstand naming at Melbourne’s Albert Park
Organisers of the Australian Grand Prix are looking to exploit the popularity of F1 star Oscar Piastri by naming a grandstand at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit to be named in honour of the local driver from 2026.
The announcement of the naming was made by Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, who confirmed that the new 'Piastri Grandstand' will overlook the pit lane and team garages, one of the prime viewing spots at the ustralian Grand Prix.
The tribute recognises the meteoric rise of the Melbourne-born McLaren driver, who currently leads the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship and has already equalled or surpassed the career win tally of several fellow Australian motorsport icons, all in just his third season at the elite level.
Speaking on Monday, Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chief Executive, Travis Auld advised “Oscar has achieved incredible success in his early career across karting, F3, F2 and now in F1. It is only fitting that we honour Oscar’s incredible rise in the sport with a dedicated grandstand at his home Grand Prix.”
The announcement comes off the back of a record-breaking year for the Australian Grand Prix. The 2025 event was the biggest ever, attracting a crowd of 465,498 - more than 13,000 above the previous record.
The event also delivered a massive $320 million economic boost to Victoria, up nearly 15% from the prior year, and supported over 1,600 full-time jobs.
