Organisers announce new 24-hour window for the 2016 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
With attractions and facilities now able to register to be part of the 2016 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL), organisers have announced that, for the first time, the event will be held over a 24-hour window on Friday 24th June.
The WLSL event taking place over the course of 24 hours will allow individual host locations to conduct the 30-minute lesson at anytime of day they choose on 24th June.
The restructure of the program will make it easier for aquatic facilities to participate, including flexible timing, reduced post-event paperwork and a reduction in the minimum number of participants required for each location.
Underpinning the WLSL is the desire to encourage participation is swimming and water safety programs and reduce drownings.
Around the world drowning is one of the leading causes on unintended, injury related death among children, yet many youngsters do not receive formal swimming or water safety training.
Since its inception, more than 155,000 children and adults have participated in WLSL lessons generating more than half a billion media impressions about the vital importance of learning to swim.
In 2015, the WLSL event included 38,170 participants from 22 countries.
Facilities of all kinds, shapes and sizes are encouraged to join Team WLSL in their mission to spread the message Swimming Lessons Save Lives™ to help prevent childhood drowning.
Aquatic facilities can be a part of the global, life-saving event by registering as an official 2016 WLSL Host Location at www.wlsl.org.
