Open water swimming heads north to Shorehaven
Western Australia’s Open Water Swimming Series is heading north to Alkimos, thanks to new support from the residential development that first opened up the region – Shorehaven at Alkimos.
The Shorehaven at Alkimos’ beach will be the northern-most metropolitan beach to host a Swimming WA Open Water Swimming round with hundreds of competitors and spectators expected to head to Shorehaven for Round 8 of the 14-round program, on 10th January 2016.
This year’s Open Water Swim Series opener kicks off 31 October 2015 at Cottesloe Beach, with rounds featuring a range of swim distances from 500 metres to 10 kilometres
Five regional locations have been included in the 2015/16 series, complementing the nine metro locations.
Peet Limited’s Shorehaven at Alkimos has signed a three-year partnership with Swimming WA, becoming a bronze sponsor of the Open Water Swimming Series.
Peet Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Brendan Gore said that the beach was an integral part of the lifestyle at Shorehaven, which is the only development in the Alkimos-Eglinton region that offers its residents direct access to the beach via an expansive foreshore park.
Gore explained “the partnership with Swimming WA is a great opportunity to make the most of the 1.7 kilometres of coastline we have at Shorehaven and invite competitors and spectators to enjoy a new beach with the added interest of the historical Alkimos wreck offshore.
“We’re inviting our residents to take up the challenge and compete in the Open Water Swim championship – and everyone to join us at Shorehaven for what will be a spectacular Sunday morning of swimming and beach fun.”
Swimming WA Chief Executive Darren Beazley said he was pleased to welcome Shorehaven at Alkimos on board as a bronze sponsor, and to extend the reach of the competition.
Beazley added “Peet’s Shorehaven at Alkimos is Swimming WA’s only supporter from the residential developer section and we’re really looking forward to taking this support to the expanding population on Perth’s northern beaches.
“The 10 January competition will be held directly in front of a stunning four-hectare Waterfront Park which provides spectators with the perfect vantage point to view the competitors in action.
“As well as the competition, there will be plenty of fun on the beach for the kids and a great morning’s entertainment kicking off from 8am.
“Registrations opened this week and we encourage everyone to register online.”
