Ongoing growth sees Pico Play look to recruit more than 50 ‘funmakers’
Advising that the company is currently working on 15 projects across eight countries with several new additions to be announced in coming months, Executive Director, Darren McLean commented “the focus of this significant recruitment drive is to grow our capability and capacity to deliver our industry-leading end-to-end services.
“As such, the roles we’ve got in market touch all parts of the business from project managers and supervisors to artists, designers, engineers and fabricators.”
The majority of roles are based in Pico Play’s fabrication facilities in Johor, Malaysia and Hai Duong, Vietnam - both of which have undergone recent expansion to meet increased global demand for services.
The roles span entry-level and junior positions through to senior, highly skilled and leadership positions but they all have one thing in common.
McLean notes “these aren’t short-term contracts. Pico Play offers genuine, ongoing and long-term opportunities with the potential for career development and progression.
“Our people turn up to work excited and interested in what they work on - every day and every project is different.”
This positive workplace culture means Pico Play enjoys a staff retention rate well above the industry average, allowing it to invest in incubating new and emerging talent.
As part of its current recruitment drive, Pico Play is seeking several junior artists to work at its Hai Duong facility so is actively recruiting the best and brightest graduates from institutions including Vietnam’s Hue University of Fine Arts.
McLean adds “we have some incredible senior artists who will serve as mentors so our new juniors will learn by immersing themselves in the team and following the processes and techniques of our established artist team.
“It’s important to have a pipeline of young talent in the group to meet our long-term-planning requirements and to develop their skills to make a creative impact on the really exciting new work about to land.”
In addition to each role’s requisite skills and experience, Pico Play is searching for candidates with a global mindset; innovative thinking; a customer-first focus; a sense of imagination, creativity and fun; a willingness to travel; an openness to sharing cultures and skills; and a love of learning.
As an employer, Pico Play nurtures these attributes through a range of initiatives and programs including weekly training sessions, professional development opportunities, team and culture-building activities and the opportunity to participate in international secondments and exchanges.
The Pico Play Employee Exchange Program (PPEEP) was established in 2019 to offer non-managerial staff international placement opportunities and the chance to not only learn new skills and ways of working but also to share cultures.
Additionally, staff are frequently offered the opportunity to travel abroad to work on Pico Play projects including 10 artists, sculptors and painters from South-East Asia who will complete work on two major attractions at Dreamworld and Movieworld at Australia’s Gold Coast this year.
McLean went on to say “Pico Play is meeting the growing demand for unique experiences in the tourism and leisure sector.
“We can’t wait to grow our passionate and multinational team of skilled workers to help us develop extraordinary attractions and destinations and deliver unforgettable guest experiences.”
Pico Play currently employs about 225 people across five countries.
