Luxury event space designed by Pico Play to open at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

A new luxury event space - ‘The Homestead’ - designed in collaboration with entertainment and leisure company Pico Play, is set to be unveiled at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary participates in 15 conservation programs for threatened and endangered species. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, which last year admitted more than 14,000 wildlife animals, including almost 400 Koalas.

‘The Homestead’ has been designed like a traditional outback Queenslander and will be open for corporate functions and weddings from the middle of the year.

The new events precinct is the centrepiece of the Wildlife Sanctuary’s ‘Outback Springs’ complex - the most significant precinct investment to the Sanctuary in its 75 year history.

The 841 metre² property draws inspiration from the famed ‘Queenslander’, complete with a wrap-around verandah, soaring ceilings and cosy sandstone fireplace. Now in its final stages of construction, bookings for The Homestead are now open ahead of the venue’s grand opening in May 2024.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary General Manager, Travis Couch shared “we designed the facility as the centrepiece of our new precinct, the most significant in the Sanctuary’s 75-year history, following extensive guest feedback and the opportunity to fill a gap in the market for a premium event space offering.”

According to Destination Gold Coast, the corporate events industry in the region is continuing to grow post-COVID with 99 business events bringing in $202 million for the local economy last financial year.

The Homestead offers an Australian experience and can comfortably seat 200 people for private functions. A bespoke menu will be launched over the coming weeks which will feature a selection of dishes, inspired by the Australian Outback.

The venue will also be complemented by an outdoor bar and alfresco dining area which will be open for Sanctuary visitors to casually dine at daily.

Couch added “with this increase in major corporate events we expect a venue like The Homestead will be highly sought after.

“The concept of paddock to plate is at the forefront of our dining experience at The Homestead, keeping in mind our heritage and the community to ensure our dishes are reflective of the region.

“The Sanctuary is already a popular location for weddings and events, and The Homestead offers couples and event organisers a  unique and premium facility to celebrate their special day.”
