One in every 22 jobs in NSW attributed to tourism

One in every 22 jobs in NSW is now attributed to the tourism industry, contributing billions of dollars in revenue and supporting more than a quarter of a million jobs across the state, so according to the Tourism Industry Council of NSW, it is only right they are duly rewarded and celebrated.

With more than 96,500 businesses involved in the tourism industry, the NSW Tourism Awards were created to recognise and promote excellence in these tourism businesses as a way to recognise their significant contribution. As a result, recognition delivered from the awards process has in turn contributed to the continual growth and desirability of NSW as a destination.

Tourism Industry Council NSW General Manager Andrew Jefferies believes that the NSW Awards program fosters healthy competition and supports the industry in striving for excellence, by assisting tourism businesses to grow and challenge themselves.

Jeffries highlights that recent statistics indicate that the NSW tourism industry is experiencing a period of growth, stating "with the state receiving more than 27.8 million overnight visitors - year ending March 2013 - and regional NSW contributing over 74 million nights of accommodation and over $12 billion in tourist expenditure it's time we band together to highlight the organisations and people behind such positive results."

In addition to the awards, the Tourism in Focus week, an initiative of the NSW Tourism Awards, is an important step in supporting and highlighting the exceptional people and products NSW has to offer.

Running from the 28th July until the 3rd August 2013, Tourism in Focus showcases the people and characters behind NSWs' best tourism businesses; the brains trust behind the tourism industry's success and economic value.

Jeffries concludes "it's about evoking a strong sense of passion and pride in the people who help us make life-long memories. From family holidays and weekend getaways, to business trips; the time is now to thank and celebrate those people responsible for these fond memories and successes."
