Olympic Council cancels martial arts games after Thailand misses deadline

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has announced the cancellation of Thailand's hosting of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) after the local organising committee failed to meet the necessary criteria in time.

Due to be held in Bangkok and Chonburi in November, after several cancellations going back to the COVID-19 pandemic, the OAC announced that it was cancelling the event after the Organising Committee failed to meet all conditions needed to guarantee the hosting of the Games by 19th August and followed a progress report presented to the 43rd OCA General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand in May by the AIMAG Organising Committee who promised that all Games requirements will be ready by July 2024.

The OCA Executive Board also unanimously agreed that if Thailand wished to host the AIMAG after the next edition, in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh in 2026, it can apply as per normal procedure to the OCA.

The 6th AIMAG had already been postponed several times due to the Covid pandemic and a change of government in Thailand.
