NSW sports facility wins IAKS/IOC silver medal in international sport architecture awards
The Milson Island Sport and Recreation Centre on the Hawkesbury River, designed by architecture firm Allen Jack+Cottier, has been awarded a silver medal at an international architectural award ceremony for sport and leisure facilities.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) honoured the modest $2.7 million sports pavilion during the 23rd IAKS Congress in conjunction with FSB (the International Trade Fair for Amenity Areas, Sports and Pool Facilities) on 22nd October 2013 in Cologne, Germany.
The building was previously shortlisted for the best Sports Building award at the 2011 World Architecture Festival in Barcelona.
Congratulating the firm, NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Gabrielle Upton stated "being awarded (this) medal ... is a wonderful achievement."
