NRMA Parks and Resorts invests in Pumphouse Point retreat to add premium enhancements
Investment in Tasmania’s award-winning Pumphouse Point, situated within the ancient myrtle forests at Lake St Clair will deliver two new premium Retreats in late July offering high-end nature-based experiential tourism in the state under the NRMA Parks and Resorts banner.
The two new premium accommodation join the existing Retreat – regarded as the pinnacle of the Pumphouse Point experience - to create a trio of Retreats, elevating the resort’s luxury offering in response to rising demand for a more exclusive, stay in Tasmania’s pristine Central Highlands.
The $2.25 million development led by owner-operators, member organisation NRMA Parks and Resorts, is the first phase of a new round of capital investment with enhancements designed to raise the property’s boutique luxury offering.
Guests planning a luxurious getaway in the Retreats at Pumphouse Point - with options for exploring Tasmania’s Lake St Clair National Park right on the doorstep - will enjoy superlative suites set on the edge of Lake St Clair and surrounded by native bushland for privacy, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering knockout views of the lake and its historic pumphouse.
Each Retreat features a king bed with premium linens, a lounging area for relaxing, an outdoor terrace, fireplace and sink-in bathtub. Guests enjoy all-inclusive dining and drinks, with Tasmania’s fine local produce the hero. Guests can look forward to the best of Tasmania on a plate in the Heritage Shorehouse restaurant and a generously stocked in-suite bar brimming with the best local produce, wines, Tasmanian craft beers, ciders and gourmet treats.
The Retreats together offer a genuine experience of Tasmania, with architectural design planned to make the most of the property’s naturally tranquil lakeside location, while locally crafted furniture, ceramics and amenities combine to create a space for escape, for togetherness, for quiet retreat.
An array of new experiences will also be offered to deepen guests’ connection with the region, its food and wine, and its history. Included are the new Pumphouse Point History Tour, where guests joined a guided, 45-minute walk taking in the 1930s designed Pumphouse, ‘Flume Walk’, Shorehouse and man-made lagoon, as well as a chocolate tasting journey in partnership with Tasmania’s renowned chocolatier, House of Anvers – plus more to be revealed soon
NRMA Parks and Resorts Chief Executive Paul Davies said the new Retreats were the first step in a series of planned enhancements to guest experiences at Pumphouse Point, led by the member organisation’s ongoing investment in Tasmania’s high-value nature-based tourism offering.
Davies noted “Pumphouse Point is well established as one of Tasmania’s iconic accommodations, a must-visit on many travellers’ lists and this investment in the property’s high-end inventory will see the next stage in the evolution of the destination as a whole.
“NRMA Parks and Resorts has made a significant commitment to tourism in the state with ongoing investment across accommodation, Gordon River Cruises, Sixt car hire, Coral Expeditions and Electric Highways Tasmania.
“We’re keen to put Pumphouse Point front and centre in travellers’ minds, with the beautiful new Retreats set overlooking the lake and historic Pumphouse ideal for a special occasion getaway, for hikers and adventurers seeking some luxury and great dining and drinks at the end of the day, road trippers and people seeking a quiet, tranquil escape.
“We think the new Retreats, along with an enhanced food and beverage offering and soon-to-be-announced new experiences program will offer guests a great excuse to come and discover the natural beauty of Pumphouse Point, Lake St Clair and the national park – as if they needed one.”
The NRMA Parks and Resorts portfolio comprises some of Tasmania’s most renowned lodgings as well as some 40 holiday parks and resorts across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. NRMA accommodations are located in some of the country’s most incredible natural destinations and each offer unforgettable experiences for guests.
