NRMA Parks and Resorts acquires Queensland’s Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park
NRMA Parks and Resorts has today announced its acquisition of popular nature-based visitor holiday park, Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park, mrking another nature-based tourism accommodation experience for the growing member-owned holiday parks portfolio.
Famous for its thriving mob of kangaroos and wallabies who gather on the beach just in time for sunrise each morning, the Cape Hillsborough property fills a gap on the NRMA Parks and Resorts’ Queensland road trip map between Yeppoon and Airlie Beach.
The acquisition marks the eleventh property in Queensland for NRMA Parks and Resorts and brings the total to 40 holiday parks and resorts across the nation.
Located on the beach in the Cape Hillsborough National Park near Mackay in North Queensland, the holiday park enjoys an absolute beachfront location and has access to outdoor activities like hiking, fishing and kayaking, together with the cultural heritage of the Yuwibara Traditional Owners of the region.
Set to retain its current branding, NRMA has plans for significant refurbishments to the park facilities including new accommodation options and destination experiences, such as guided tours and Indigenous experiences are at hand as part of a broad reaching three-year masterplan.
Advising that its easy connection with wildlife in its natural environment is what sets the park aside as a nature-based experiential property, NRMA Parks and Resorts Chief Executive, Paul Davies stated “as the NRMA Parks portfolio continues to expand, we’re conscious of growing in a considered way and offer our guests the chance to interact in a memorable and sustainable way with Australia’s own incredible wildlife and Aboriginal cultural histories and stories.
“There are so many unforgettable experiences we’d like to offer our guests, and the Sunrise with the Wallabies experience is a perfect example. As the sun takes its first glimpse over the horizon, our guests join the kangaroos and wallabies on the beach as the friendly Tour Guides share stories about the unique environmental aspects of the location and the region.”
The park was purchased from long time owners Ben and Renae Atherton and NRMA Parks and Resorts acknowledge their strong contribution to regional eco-tourism over the past 10 years, with their work recently recognised through a gold award for the Best of Queensland Award for Best Caravan or Holiday Park and also the Most Outstanding Contribution by an Individual at the Mackay Isaac Tourism Awards 2022.
