NRL's Wests Tigers confirm Chief Executive's tenure and reveal countdown to stadium plan

The NRL's Wests Tigers have confirmed Shane Richardson as its Chief Executive, commencing on a four-year deal from 2nd July.

Appointed to the role on an interim basis in December, as part of sweeping changes to the club following an independent governance and culture review, the former South Sydney, Panthers and Cronulla executive is committed to making a difference at Wests Tigers over the next few years.

Committed to the club despite its back to back bottom of the ladder finishes, Richardson stated “this is a fantastic opportunity for me to assist this club win its second premiership.

“Wests Tigers is a family club with fiercely loyal members and a huge supporter base.

Wests Tigers interim Chair, Barry O’Farrell, says it was an easy decision to extend Richardson’s contract, noting “Shane has done a tremendous job since taking over as interim CEO, impressing supporters, staff and sponsors.”

Three-year stadium plan
The NRL club has advised that it is still working through a stadium strategy for 2025 and beyond, setting a 30th June deadline for this to be announced.

In a statement, it advised “the club is currently weighing up several options for a three-year stadium plan that we believe to be in the best interests of Wests Tigers.

“Like all club announcements, when this stadium plan has been finalised, Wests Tigers Members and stakeholders will be the first to be advised.”

Last month, the NSW Government advised that it would not be funding a plan to revitalise Leichhardt Oval, one of Wests Tigers’ traditional home grounds.
