NRL shortlisted for international Beyond Sport award

Beyond Sport has announced its official shortlist for the Beyond Sport Awards 2015, with the National Rugby League nominated in the 'Sport Federation or Governing Body of the Year' category.

The NRL has been shortlisted with the International Tennis Federation, the USA's National Hockey League and the Fiji Volleyball Federation.

Selected from over 350 entries reaching 60 different countries, the shortlist represents the standout and unique work being done by organisations across the globe, from figure skating in Harlem to get young girls interested in STEM education, to socially conscious gym classes as a way to support isolated older people in disadvantaged communities across the UK.

NRL Head of Community Adam Check said to be listed among sporting organisations like the NHL and International Tennis Federation is a great honour and a tribute to the work done across the organisation in encouraging positive social change.

Check "whether it's our work with Indigenous communities, Voice Against Violence, State of Mind or marriage equality, the NRL has a track record of standing up for our beliefs and delivering a better quality of life across the community.

"It's very pleasing to be publically acknowledged for our community work and the difference it's making."

Taking place in London from 19th to 21st October, the seventh annual Beyond Sport Summit will bring together the world of sport, business, government and community development with a powerful and timely theme: Beyond The Divide, which addresses how sport can be used to reduce ignorance, discrimination and exclusion.

The Beyond Sport Awards promote, support and reward the best projects across the globe that are using sport for positive social change. Since 2009, Beyond Sport has awarded over $4 million worth of business support and funding to over 150 winning projects for their innovations and impact through sport.

As a shortlisted entry, the NRL will receive a bespoke business support package with opportunities for business mentoring and will become a member of an influential group of social entrepreneurs in the sporting and financial sphere.
