New Zealand aquatic sector prepares for JAWS
Aquatic sector professionals are encouraged to register now for the 2016 Just Add Water Seminar (JAWS) - New Zealand’s premier aquatics industry conference - being staged at the Rydges Hotel, Wellington from 10th to 12th August.
JAWS 2016 will explore the theme of ‘Together Towards Tomorrow’ – looking at the latest thinking and innovations in aquatic and recreation facilities, sharing valuable knowledge of best practice in aquatic facilities, and encouraging industry development and recognition.
This year’s program boasts an impressive line-up of presentations and workshops by leading industry experts from New Zealand and overseas.
Duane Major
One of the campaigners behind successful crowdfunding efforts to buy Awaroa Beach in the Abel Tasman National Park for the public, Christchurch youth worker Duane Major also helped to restore the the West Spreydon school pool five days before earthquakes rocked the city in 2011 - and then helped raise a further $550,000 to rebuild it.
Kris Bird
In April 2017 New Zealand will host the World Masters Games – the largest multi-sport event by competitor numbers in the world. World Masters Games 2017 Sports and Venues Manager Kris Bird will offer insight into preparing facilities and communities for this world class sporting event, recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
Gary Johnson
An Australian expert in aquatic safety, Gary Johnson created the award-winning Pool Super Vision lifeguard training method to help prevent drownings, introduced in February to lifeguards at Marlborough’s Stadium 2000. Johnson will present on facility management, with an additional interactive workshop for lifeguards.
2016 Awards Dinner and field trips
The prestigious Lifeguard of the Year and Aquatic Innovation Awards 2016 will be held at the JAWS Gala Awards Dinner on 11th August at The Boatshed. This historic premier venue sits on Wellington's picturesque inner harbour, offering spectacular waterfront and city views.
The JAWS 2016 line-up also includes the New Zealand National Lifeguard Sports Competition and field trips showcasing Wellington's pools and facilities, including Outstanding Pool Award winner Coastlands Aquatic Centre.
