New wave of grants for sports clubs across Victoria
The Victorian Government has announced 827 grants for sports clubs across the state through the Sporting Club Grants Program totalling more than $1 million.
The program provides funding for equipment and uniforms, taking the financial burden off clubs and support for volunteers and officials to learn new skills and deliver new programs ─ helping local clubs grow.
Victorian Acting Minister for Community Sport Gayle Tierney notes “these grants create real opportunities for the people at the heart of local sport – helping players grow, volunteers stay engaged, and coaches give their best both on and off the field.”
This round invests $4,000 for Brunswick Magic Basketball Association’s new ‘Girls in Sport’ program, which is running free workshops featuring a WNBL1 player to encourage girls’ participation.
The newly established Port Melbourne Chargers Women's Football Club has received $1,700 for courses that enhance skills and develop new coaching methods to help the club grow.
The program is also investing $4,000 to help Trafalgar Park Bowls Club introduce pickleball to the local community with a new 40-week program for people of all ages and abilities to get involved.
Wangaratta Golf Club will also use $4,000 to offer a 6-week program to increase women's participation in golf.
Since 2014, the Sporting Club Grants Program has invested more than $19.5 million in local communities to support thousands of sport and recreation clubs across the state.
The program is backed by the Regional Community Sport Development Fund which is delivering infrastructure upgrades and other programs including the Regional Community Sport Infrastructure Fund to help more regional Victorians to get active and be a part of their local sporting clubs.
The Victorian Budget 2025/26 is investing in real cost of living help for families, with $15 million to deliver the popular $200 Get Active Kids Vouchers for another two years – helping more children get involved in local sport and stay active.
