Walking and cycling trail completed at Jervis Bay
The final stages of a 55 kilometre walking track around Jervis Bay and surrounds has been completed, finalising what the Federal Minister for Regional Development, Senator Fiona Nash said would afford people of all abilities “million dollar views of the crystal waters of the New South Wales south coast, from the sanctuary of Australian bushland”.
Senator Nash said the now-completed ‘Round the Bay’ walking track would take people “on a journey through some of the country's most pristine natural landscapes”, adding “this part of the New South Wales south coast is world renowned for its unspoilt white sandy beaches emerging from traditional Australian bushland.”
Senator Nash added “the Round the Bay Walk is certain to become one of those must-do activities for walking enthusiasts both domestically and around the globe, bringing further economic benefits to the region.”
The final section of the walking track, which contains shared user pathways, bridges, and trails, was officially opened to users earlier this month following the completion of the Orion Beach Shared User Path project in Vincentia at the southern end of the walk.
Local MP Ann Sudmalis added “walking is the most popular sports activity for Australians and bushwalking is becoming more popular.
“Along with regular users, we know there is a proportion of visitors who stay in the area for a day or so to see the beaches and National Park. What we are hoping to see with this development is the attraction of staying three and four days in the region to undertake the entire walk,” Sudmalis added.”
The completed project was jointly funded by the Federal Government ($450,000), the NSW Government ($25,000) and the Shoalhaven City Council ($853,731).
