New style running race to hit the streets of Melbourne

A new style of running race will hit the Melbourne’s streets on Sunday 19th April. CITYTRAIL™ Melbourne, presented by Salomon, is a part trail, part pavement running race that organisers hope will capture the imagination of thousands.

The idea behind CITYTRAIL™ is to make the most of the unique features in any city; turning the city’s structures into an environment in which participants can vary their workouts, explore new routes and see things they might not when following more conventional routes. The surfaces and terrain vary from pavement to dirt to wood and runners will tackle stairways, cross bridges, and run through alleyways in an adventurous course through the city.

Having proved popular in Europe and North America, this will be the first CITYTRAIL™ event in Australia.

CITYTRAIL™ Melbourne event offers three course distances – 7 kilometres, 12 kilometres and a 2 kilometres childrens’ Run. Each course includes flights of stairs, bridges, paths and fun around a number of quintessential Melbourne landmarks.

Runners will weave around The Tan, the Yarra River, Melbourne’s sporting precinct – AAMI Park, Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park Tennis Centre and the MCG – and then Birrarung Marr and Federation Square.

Runners will be able to enjoy city views, stunning architecture, interesting artworks, historic features, and a different take on their usual running route and mainstream ‘fun runs’.
