New strategy aims to put Victoria in world’s top golf destinations

Tourism promotion agency Visit Victoria has launched a new strategy that sets out an ambitious goal Victoria to become one of the world’s top golf tourism destinations.

Led by Melbourne’s Sandbelt and supported by courses on the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas, Victoria is renowned for hosting some of Australia’s best golf courses and golf holiday experiences.

Now, with the release of Visit Victoria’s new Victoria’s Golf Tourism Strategy 2018-2023, it is aiming at becoming internationally recognised as one of the top golf destinations in the world.

The recently released report sets out to pave the way for growth in the industry and to assist in showcasing Melbourne as one of the best year-round golfing destinations in the world, and capitalise on that reputation to disperse visitation to Victoria’s other premier golf regions.

The Strategy was commissioned to reflect the latest state-of-play in the golf tourism industry and outline a clear direction for the next five years and was informed by wide-spread consultation with industry stakeholders and visitor research.

The strategy is also set out to leverage Victoria’ hosting of major international golf events such as the World Cup of Golf this year and the President’s Cup in 2019.

A Visit Victoria spokesperson advised “with Victoria’s calendar of major golf events secured and existing global and national recognition as a premier golf destination, the implementation of Victoria’s Golf Tourism Strategy 2018-2023 hopes to further affirm the state’s role as Australia’s Home of Golf.”
