New Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum opens in China
Zaha Hadid Architects has announced the opening of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum in the city’s Guangming District.
Designed as a leading visitor destination of the Greater Bay Area, the new museum explores the power of science and the technological advancements shaping the future.
The museum will collaborate with the region’s tech businesses, universities, schools and research centres to present Shenzhen as a global leader in the development of new technologies.
In a media release, Zaha Hadid Architects said the museum was designed as a “solid, spherical volume facing the city”.
The Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum houses 35,000 square metres of permanent and temporary exhibition halls and galleries and 6,000 square metres of immersive theatres and cinemas.
It also contains 5,400 square metres of research laboratories, educational facilities and an innovation centre along with 34,000 square metres of guest amenities, storage and production and maintenance workshops.
The museum’s design features combined with smart management networks operating high-efficiency systems serve to reduce the building’s energy consumption and emissions.
Recyclable materials were used in construction, while the museum‘s water management system implements grey-water recycling, in addition to the collection and storage of rainwater to reduce overall water consumption.
