New Narrabri Aquatic Centre opens

Narrabri Shire Council recently opened the new Narrabri Aquatic Centre featuring a 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor childrens splashpad, cafe and meeting rooms.

Located next to the Narrabri Memorial Swimming Pool, the $5 million centre also offers an air conditioned viewing gallery and a large a multi-purpose room along with built in aids for the disabled and less mobile swimmers including a wheel chair lift for all pools and ramp for easy access into the indoor pool.

Designed by the Facility Design Group, the Council was able to leverage infrastructure assistance from the NSW Government as well as securing $4 million in community contributions from Boggabri Coal and Whitehaven Coal. The indoor 25 metre and play pool both utilise the latest UV Water treatment and calcium chlorine dosing technology.

The new plant was installed Hydrocare Pool Services Pty Ltd.

The splash play pool at the Centre is a new offering combining spray elements from Waterzone and AntiWave were installed by Hydrocare Pools Plus. The Pool varies in depth from zero to 400 mm.

Talking to local media when the facility opened after a year of construction, Narrabri Mayor Conrad Bolton explained "this project has been a desire of the Narrabri Shire Community (and was made possible) through leveraging state funding and attracting funding partners."

Mayor Bolton added "what is truly impressive is that this facility provides the potential for catering not only to the needs of our senior citizens, but also our kids, those with disabilities, those with injuries requiring rehabilitation and for those that are just looking to improve their general fitness.

"Having a heated indoor facility just opens up so many year round opportunities.

"Aside from the recreational and rehabilitative functions, this centre will also be the place where many of our children will either hone their skills or learn to swim.

"I cannot emphasise how important it is for children and parents to be water aware."

Narrabri is set to be one of only two towns in the north-west NSW region to have a year-round aquatic facility and it is already in use by Narrabri Swimming Club members who are part of the Northern Inland Academy of Sport.
