New lookout and viewing platform offers improved access at Minyon Falls
Minyon Falls - located in Nightcap National Park, Northern NSW – now has a spectacular new lookout and viewing platform offering improved access for visitors to experience one of Australia's best waterfalls in the renowned biodiversity hotspot.
NewScape were engaged by NSW National Parks to design for the redevelopment of the Minyon Falls Visitor Precinct and Lookout.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Director North Coast, Russell Madeley said the new facilities secure Minyon Falls as the must-see destination in Northern NSW and noted "the magnificent Minyon Falls drop over 100 metres into a plunge pool surrounded by ancient rainforest.
"The new lookout and further upgrades in the precinct mean visitors can access the amazing view more easily, with new wheelchair accessibility, picnic areas and increased parking.
"250,000 people already visit Minyon Falls each year, delivering significant economic benefits to the region.
"The opening of the new site makes it easier and safer for a more diverse range of visitors to access and enjoy the national park.”
Madeley added "the revamp marks the completion of the first stage of a $7.5 million project that will deliver a network of walking trails winding through lush rainforests to draw visitors from the coast into the hinterland.
"These trails, including a signature 4-day walk, will be supported by facilities for day use and overnight stays, including campgrounds, picnic areas, car parks and toilets in a huge investment in sustainable visitor infrastructure.
"Minyon Falls is a culturally significant site for the Widjabul Wia-bal people and their support has been a crucial aspect of the upgrade.
"The works have been undertaken with sensitivity to the surroundings including the recycling of trees which had previously been hit by lightning.”
