New light installation at Kings Canyon resort elevates tourism experience
The launch of a new installation by acclaimed artist Bruce Munro will light up Discovery Resorts - Kings Canyon in the Northern Territory when it opens to the public this Saturday, 1st April.
A collaboration between Munro and Australia's regional tourism leader G'day Group, Light-Towers is the latest light experience to grace the Red Centre following the success of Munro's Field of Light at Uluru and the annual Parrtjima festival, which kicks off next week.
Consisting of 69 two-metre towers, each one meticulously constructed from 216 glass bottles, Light Towers is illuminated by optic fibres and solar powered by the desert sun. Changing colour in response to a unique musical composition from Orlando Gough, Light-Towers takes visitors on a captivating and immersive aural and visual journey.
In place at Discovery Resorts - Kings Canyon for the next two years, Light-Towers signals a fresh chapter for the property, which has undergone a $20 million transformation since being acquired by G'day Group in 2021.

This has seen the company overhaul the accommodation offering, renovating 128 deluxe and standard resort rooms, developing a new, modern reception area and investing in new experiences on property to encourage guests to stay a while and immerse themselves in the incredible landscapes of the Watarrka National Park.
G'day Group Chief Marketing Officer Lahnee White said the launch of Light-Towers was the perfect way to cap off an intensive two-year program of works at the property and underlined the Group's commitment to developing experiential tourism offerings in iconic regional locations.
White adds "the Red Centre is a bucket list destination, and we want to ensure that a visit to Kings Canyon remains synonymous with this journey and continues to live up to its billing as an iconic tourism destination.
"When we acquired the property, we had a clear plan to elevate the guest experience by investing in new accommodation and experiences to make for a comfortable stay and full itinerary to ensure that their Red Centre trip remains a lifelong memory.
"We're thrilled to launch Light-Towers in collaboration with Bruce Munro and can't wait for guests to experience this incredible work that make a visit to Kings Canyon even more special."
Munro adds "Kings Canyon is another of those unique landscapes of the Northern Territory. It inspires one to swim with the current time, and marvel at the miracle of the present moment."
