New life for ACT Sports Hall of Fame

ACT Minister for Sport and Recreation Shane Rattenbury has re-opened the ACT Sports Hall of Fame in its new home at the University of Canberra Sports Commons.

The ACT Sports Hall of Fame currently has more than 100 members, including athletes, coaches, administrators and broadcasters.

Speaking at this week’s opening, Minister Rattenbury stated "these are not only the many great athletes who learned their craft or applied their skills here in Canberra, but of many of those behind the scenes who laid the ground work for growth and success.

"Only two weeks ago the Hall of Fame welcomed a new crop of inductees when another eight names were added. Previously, these inductees would have had their photo and details of their achievements mounted on a wall inside the western stand at Canberra Stadium, an area somewhat hidden from public view.

"The new Hall of Fame here at the Sports Commons at UC will be significantly more accessible to the general public. No doubt, for all those students and athletes that pass through this building over the years to come, the Hall of Fame will provide both a lesson in local sports history and be a source of inspiration.

"The new Sports Commons are not only a new home for community sport, but also a new home for our Hall of Fame.

"There is plenty of room remaining on the walls and I look forward to the future addition of more deserving inductees into our Hall of Fame."
