New leaders announced for Northern Territory tourism and event boards

The Northern Territory Government has new leadership to drive fresh strategic direction and growth in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

NT Minister for Tourism and Hospitality and NT Minister for Major Events, Marie-Clare Boothby announced the appointment of Paul Ah Chee as Chair of the Tourism NT Board of Commissioners, and Penny Priest as Chair of the NT Major Events Company Board.

Minister Boothby noted “these board appointments mark the beginning of a renewed direction in strengthening the NT’s tourism and major events sectors.

“With a revitalised and collaborative approach, we will target strategic markets that drive conversion and deliver real economic recovery to support the industry.”

Ah Chee brings decades of experience across tourism, cultural institutions, and business leadership.

He has held key leadership roles, including:

  • Director of Alice Springs Desert Park.

  • Director of AFL Central Australia.

  • Director of the South Australian Museum.

Ah Chee shared “together with the board and everyone across the tourism industry, I am looking forward to reaffirming our collective spirit and further developing mutual understanding across the Territory.

“We are on a remarkable journey to revitalise and grow our industry and the destination as a whole.”

Penny Priest steps up as Chair of the NT Major Events Company (NTMEC) Board.

She has played a key role in shaping the Territory’s tourism and events landscape in the private sector.

Priest holds the roles of:

  • Crocosaurus Cove Chief Executive

  • Fitzroy Island Resort Chief Executive

  • Vice Chair of the Tourism Top End Board.

Priest added “I am honoured to step into the role of Chair for NT Major Events Company and would like to thank Michael Bridge for his outstanding leadership as both a board member and Chair.”

“I look forward to collaborating with the NTMEC team and NT Government to continue delivering unique festivals and events that showcase the best of the Northern Territory.”

Boothby acknowledged the contributions of outgoing chair Michael Bridge, who has served the NT tourism and events sectors with distinction.
