New indoor ski centre to open in North Geelong
Australia’s second PowderPak Park will be opening in Geelong in February.
PowderPak Parks, who opened their first facility in Carrum Downs in May last year, are currently transforming a warehouse in North Geelong into a ski and snowboard attraction, with installation of the latest technology in dry artificial snow surfaces set to make the centre a year round attraction.
Owner Trent Haverkamp told the Geelong Advertiser “there’s a big ski and snowboarder presence here (in Geelong) so it should work.
“Everyone seems pretty stoked and pumped with it, I’ve been to all the board stores and ski stores and a few of them want to get on board in terms of sponsorship, then talking to actual board riders - they’re very excited.”
The indoor slope will feature ramps, jumps and boxes on which riders can perform tricks, just like they would on the mountain.
Heverkamp sees the facility as offering a low cost way for enthusiasts to enjoy sking and snowboarding, adding “it’s a lot cheaper, probably a third of the price of going to the snow, and that’s not factoring in travel, that’s just pure lift ticket price
“(However) it’s not as big as the snow, it’s not replicating a snowy mountain, it’s a skate park for skiers and snowboarders.”
