New guide to Swimming Pool Maintenance and Filtration Systems

Leading Singapore-based swimming pool expert E.T. Chan has released a book drawing on his 30 years of personal experience in constructing and maintaining swimming pools

A Guide to Swimming Pool Maintenance and Filtration Systems: An Instructional Know-How on Everything You Need to Know covers the fundamental principles of planning, design, maintenance and the operation of swimming pools and is designed to aid all involved in the construction and maintainance of aquatic facilties.

An essential manual, it is filled with a wealth of knowledge for industry professionals and includes diagrams, charts and illustrations to help readers solve some of the most complex issues faced in the industry via many practical and detailed examples.

Launched in Singapore last month, the launch event brought together some of the industry’s most respected professionals including leading architects, engineers and pool maintenance technicians.

Backing Chan’s initiative, Yee Weng Phei, former Director of Facilities with the Singapore Sports Council, wrote in the book’s forward that “the book is very  clear, concise and presented in a very comprehensible manner. It serves as an excellent guide book for professionals involved in swimming pool designing, construction and maintenance.”

Yee, who has been honoured as a pioneer of sport for his contributions to the Master Plan for sports facilities in Singapore, described the book as a “reference for industry”, adding “if you are in the swimming pool industry, this book is a must have.”

A Guide to Swimming Pool Maintenance and Filtration Systems also looks toward the future of swimming pool technology with a chapter featuring new and unique technology for prevention of drowning, explaining the value of systems that can detect a swimmer when a drowning incident occurs – often significantly quicker than lifeguards are able to (lifeguard only detect 16% of people within 15 seconds of drowning – computer vision can improve this up to 80%+).

Filled with a wealth of practical information, Chan includes diagrams, charts, and graphs to help pool professionals apply their skills. A Guide to Swimming Pool Maintenance and Filtration Systems serves as a manual for those involved in swimming pool design, construction, and maintenance.

It contains details covering the required mechanical and electrical engineering as well as the application of swimming pool filtration system designs and analyses-in solving most of the practical and complex problems faced by the professionals in the industry today.
