New green gym turns workouts into watts
24 hour gym chain Stepz Fitness is turning workouts into watts with the launch of a new green club on the Gold Coast.
Stepz Fitness Benowa is the first gym in Queensland to convert human energy into electricity through equipment that feeds power back into the grid via a specialised converter.
Franchisee Nariman Karimi said the technology provided a great opportunity for the gym and its members to 'go green'.
Karimi explained "we are going green by literally turning workouts into watts.
"We are the only gym in Queensland to offer cardio equipment that creates energy, converts it into electricity, then feeds it directly back into the grid.
"This is a fantastic way for our members to get fit and healthy, as well as help the environment by reducing their carbon footprint."
The technology is available across exercise bikes and cross trainers.
Karimi said the business's goal was to become a net-zero energy gym, with members encouraged to use the energy-generating equipment, adding "we've placed the equipment in a prominent position so it is visible and easily accessible.
"It's also an excellent way for people to offset their energy consumption and remind them about the concept of sustainability.
"The electricity is fed straight into the local grid that the rest of the club is connected to, so we are essentially reusing it and one day hope to be carbon neutral."
Stepz Fitness offers members 24-hour access to its gyms via a special access card and no fixed contract memberships. Membership fees are around half the price of standard gyms, starting from $18.95 per fortnight.
Karimi said not only was Stepz Fitness Benowa eco-friendly, it also offered a great arrangement for members.
He explained "what makes a Stepz Fitness gym stand out is that it is locally-owned and managed, offering flexibility for clients but with a personal touch said.
"We provide high-quality training equipment and facilities 24/7, affordability with no fixed contracts and low joining fees, and our friendly management team brings a real sense of community to the gym."
Karimi plans to open another Stepz Fitness at Arundel, also on the Gold Coast, in mid-July.
Stepz Fitness Benowa is located at Benowa Gardens Shopping Centre, corner of Benowa and Ashmore Roads.
Other Stepz Fitness gyms are located across Brisbane and in Burwood in Sydney. Others are set to open this year in Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and Victoria.
