Horizon Power partnership program boosts regional events and organisations
Horizon Power, a Government Trading Enterprise which generates, distributes and retails electricity to more than 48,000 connections in regional and remote Western Australia, has awarded $468,888 in funding to support 57 community organisations and events throughout regional and remote WA.
The program has awarded almost $4.5 million to more than 450 initiatives in regional WA since 2020.
Recipients of the latest round include Broome Soccer Association for their Broome Matilda's Soccer Project - Let's Get Girls Moving!; the Country Women's Association in Derby, Carnarvon Golf Club and Esperance Soccer Association, with the funding to support upgrading their club facilities to better serve their members.
Events such as the Meekatharra Outback Festival, Denham's Beats in the Bay and the Munumburra Festival in Wyndham will also receive funding.
Meanwhile, the State's diversity will be celebrated with support for initiatives such as the Pilbara Pride Festival in Port Hedland and the Kepa Kurl Youth NAIDOC Ball in Esperance.
The State Government, through Horizon Power, provides $1.1 million each financial year to regional community initiatives and events, with $542,575 awarded to 66 regional organisations in October 2023.

Supporting regional WA businesses reach their decarbonisation goals
Horizon Power is a State Government owned Government Trading Enterprise (GTE) which operates under the Electricity Corporations Act 2005 (WA) and is governed by a Board of Directors accountable to the WA Minister for Energy.
Horizon Power has launched the inaugural Decarbonisation Pathway Index and share important insights - to uncover the level of energy transition maturity businesses operating in regional WA exhibit. 92% of participants believe climate change poses a risk to their business
The decarbonisation agenda has gained momentum over the past year, moving from discussions around aspirational goals into a desire for quantifiable action.
The state’s transition to a low carbon economy is a collaborative journey and will require the collective efforts of governments, businesses, communities and consumers.
The Index captures WA businesses’ views on a range of decarbonisation and climate change topics, including
Energy efficiency and process
The transition to a low carbon economy
Electrification of company premises, machinery and transport
Fuel switching and social impact measurements
Less than 1 in 10 businesses believe they have the expertise needed in energy related topics
