New director appointed to Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority board

The Tasmanian Government has appointed Richard Mulvaney as a new non-executive Director to the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority board while also reappointing Grant O’Brien as Chair.

Mulvaney replaces the Hon Peter McKay whose tenure has expired. Mulvaney has more than 35 years experience in the cultural sector and is a strong advocate for museums and heritage sites.

He is a past Director of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, past Chief Executive of NSW Rail Transport Museum and a Director of Bradman Museum and Foundation,” she said.

Mulvaney was also the former president of Museums Australia, Tasmania and has held board roles on the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board, Theatre North, Churchill Memorial Trust, Southern Highlands Arts and Museums Arts and Advisory Board.

O’Brien has served as Chair of the Authority since 2019, leading the Government Business Enterprise through the challenging impacts of COVID. His re-appointment for a further term of two years will enable the Board to continue to guide the organisation through the post-COVID recovery stage.

Tasmanian Minister for Heritage, Madeleine Ogilvie thanked McKay for his significant contribution to the Board over the past nine years adding “His leadership and assistance in navigating the business challenges with a pragmatic perspective has enabled business improvement and success.”
