New digital imaging at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Hospital on the Gold Coast is now equipped with state of the art digital imaging facilities that enables them to provide a much improved diagnosis for sick and injured native animals.
The range of diagnostic, imaging and software equipment - generously donated by Queensland X-Ray, FujiFilm Australia and Voyager Imaging - has provided veterinarians with greatly improved confidence in detecting medical issues.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Senior Veterinarian, Dr Michael Pyne, said operating in the new digital environment has made a massive difference to diagnosing problems, especially in small animals.
Dr Pyne explained "we are now able to detect a lot more hairline fractures, soft tissue changes in joints, as well as spinal fractures that could have been easily missed with the old technology.
"Previously, we used to capture between 10 and 20 x-rays per day, but have since doubled that capacity thanks to the speed of the new imaging equipment and our ability to view the x-rays so quickly."
Instrumental in driving the equipment donation was Paul MacDonald from Queensland X-Ray. MacDonald explained "Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Hospital performs an exceptional role, despite having to rely on visitor revenue, sponsorships and donations to function. It was clear they would significantly benefit from new equipment that could make their job a lot more efficient and easier."
Lance Thomas, Business Manager of an Australian radiology products company Voyager Imaging believes that the initiative will enhance diagnostic capabilities at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Hospital and enable x-ray images to be distributed to other veterinarians via the internet as required.
Thomas adds "Voyager Imaging is delighted to be affiliated with such a worthy project that will undoubtedly prove beneficial in conserving our native wildlife."
