New Chief Executive for Surf Life Saving New Zealand
The Board of Surf Life Saving New Zealand has announced the appointment of Paul Dalton as the organisation's new Chief Executive.
To be based in Wellington, Dalton joins SLSNZ from the New Zealand Rugby Union, where he has led the commercial team as Commercial Manager for the last four years and having previously been the Business Development Manager for two year before that.
Dalton comes with a wealth of commercial expertise and extensive knowledge of the sporting sector along with broad senior management experience in major corporates both domestically and overseas, bringing with him a history of successful leadership in small and large organisations including New Zealand Post, Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corp and Hong Kong Post. His strong leadership, strategic and business development focus and financial management experience will be of huge value to Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
Dalton is a member of the NZ Institute of Directors and past President of the NZ Orienteering Federation. He also competes at a national level in orienteering and on a number of occasions has represented New Zealand as an international competitor.
Speaking of his appointment Dalton explained "I am really looking forward to the opportunity to starting work on the 16th April.
"As an organisation and a sport, Surf Life Saving has a very important role in New Zealand society and I will do my best in my role as CEO to work with the clubs and everyone in wider Surf Life Saving NZ team to maintain and grow that standing, and ensure the future is only brighter.
"I look forward to the chance of getting around the country in the coming weeks and months to meet as many people as I can face to face, and until then I will be trying to learn as much as I can as I transition from rugby fields to beaches!"
Dalton will commence his role on Monday 16th April 2012.
